TRIP REPORT TO FORT CALHOUN POWER PLANT, SEPTEMBER 12 - 13,2005, AND IDAHO NATIONAL LABORATORY, AUGUST 29, 2005Attached is a copy of the trip report describing trips to Fort Calhoun Power Plant and IdahoNational Laboratory. Participants for the trips are George Adams, Robert Johnson and myself.The objectives of the visits were to: (i) observe tests conducted by the utilities to identify spentfuel assemblies with cladding defects (e.g., sipping test); (ii) discuss equipment failure experience at the plant; (iii) understand the design and operations of the environmental control(i.e., inerting system); and (iv) understand spent fuel handling operations. These visits were inpreparation of our review of a potential License Application for a nuclear waste repository at Yucca Mountain.
