Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will meet with the public Aug. 29 in Rockville, Md., to discuss proposed options on modifying the agencys approach to considering economic consequences from nuclear power plant accidents.

The staff has provided a paper, available on the NRC website, to the agencys five Commissioners laying out the NRCs current approach to economic consequences and possible revisions. The meeting to discuss the paper will run from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Commission Meeting Room at NRC Headquarters, 11555 Rockville Pike in Rockville. The public will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide comments during the meeting.

The meeting will include a teleconference. Anyone interested in calling in should contact Carolyn Siu at 301-251-7568 or carolyn.siu@nrc.gov or Alysia Bone at 301-251-7602 or alysia.bone@nrc.gov by Aug. 27 for instructions. The Commissioners will discuss the economic consequences paper with a panel of external stakeholders, as well as senior NRC staff, on Sept. 11.
