REACTOR TRIP DUE TO EQUIFENT MALFUNCTION; AIT DISPATCHED TO PLANT (SECONDUPDATE)

The AIT on-site activities have concluded. The team, by interviewing operators and other plant personnel, by reviewing records, and by observing plant conditions, gathered the necessary information to evaluate the significance of the event.

Preliminary results indicate that:

The plant'did not' exceed ar.y technical specification or design limits during the event.

The existing emergency procedures used are adequate.

The licensee's special management team is conducting a thorough

(,,h and vigorous investigation.

\ l The licensee is taking corrective action on the equipment which malfunctioned 63 ring the event and inspecting similar equipment which did not fail. '

The team has not identified any major programmatic weaknesses which would preclude restart.

The State of Ohio will be notified.
