Subject:

REPLY TO REQUEST FOR SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION - 2022 TRIENNIAL UPDATE TO DECOMMISSIONING FUNDING PLAN ENTERPRISE PROJECT IDENTIFICATION NUMBER L-2022-DFA-0010

Dear Mr. Siurano-Perez,

By letter dated January 24, 2023 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System

[ADAMS] Accession Number ML23060A262), we provided the Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) responses to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) request for supplemental information (RSI) dated December 17, 2022 (ML22348A170). That RSI requested information to dete1mine whether the September 27, 2022, submittal (ML22293A269) that provided NIST's triennial update to its Decommissioning Funding Plan, could be accepted for detailed technical review.

NRC staff informed NIST that the response to the RSI was complete but did not fully address the info1mation requested; however, knowing that NIST had begun the procurement process to have a new decommissioning cost estimate (DCE) completed in April 2023, the NRC staff placed the technical review of the September 27, 2022, submittal on hold pending the receipt and evaluation of the new DCE.

At this time NIST is submitting the updated DCE to satisfy any pending info1mation requested that comprises 11 documents via the Electronic Information Exchange Portal of the NRC.

Thank you for your attention to this letter and uploaded documents. If you have fmther questions about this response, please contact the NIST Gaithersburg Radiation Safety Officer, Mr. Manuel Mejias at 301-975-5800 or manny.mejias@nist.gov.
