No: 23-006 January 30, 2023 CONTACT: Ivonne Couret, 301-415-8200 NRCs 35th Annual Regulatory Information Conference to Focus on Navigating the Nuclear Future The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold its largest technical meeting - the 35th annual Regulatory Information Conference - March 14-16 in North Bethesda, Maryland.

Several thousand conferees are expected to attend the first in-person NRC RIC since 2019. The event will also be accessible virtually.

This years conference will focus on navigating the nuclear future, starting with an address from NRC Chair Christopher T. Hanson, during which he will share his observations and priorities for the agency.

On March 14, the RIC will welcome keynote speaker Rafael Mariano Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

In addition, on March 15, Chair Hanson will host a conversation with Laura S.H. Holgate, the U.S.

ambassador to the Vienna office of the United Nations and to the IAEA.

This conference is the most important and widely attended NRC event each year. It enables attendees from the United States and around the world to learn about the NRCs vital safety and security mission, said Hanson. Over the course of the conference, we will share information about what were doing now and how were preparing for the future, and well gather insights from attendees that will inform our decisions and preparations.

Additional program highlights include plenary sessions with NRC Commissioners Jeff Baran, David A. Wright, Annie Caputo and Bradley R. Crowell. The RIC plenary sessions will also include remarks by the NRC Executive Director for Operations Dan Dorman. Andrea Veil, the director of the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, and Ray Furstenau, the director of the Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research, will moderate a special plenary session with NRC senior managers and industry officials.

The conference, which is free to the public, is jointly hosted by the NRCs offices of Nuclear Reactor Regulation and Nuclear Regulatory Research. Registration is required to attend.
