1. Purpose The purpose of this Chapter is to describe maintenance operations on the FCC3 packagings.
2. Maintenance programme 2.1. Inspections prior to each shipment Prior to each shipment the inspections described in Chapter 1.7 of this Report are carried out.

2.2. Periodic maintenance programme Every 50 +/- 1 rotations(*) , or every 5 years, whichever is the more restrictive, the packaging is required to undergo the following inspections and maintenance operations:

Systematic inspection of the general condition of the packaging and replacement of any non-compliant component. The criteria are as defined in Chapter 1.4 of this Report.

Visual and functional check through the full stroke of all bolts complete with nut connecting the 2 half-shells.

Following removal of the paint, dye penetrant inspection (COFREND or equivalent) of the full length of the welds connecting the handling boxes and the shell (100% surface area inspection), the welds on the reinforcing angle bars located on each side of the handling boxes, and the peripheral welds between the shell and the flanges.

Check the tightening torque of all bolted connections not removed during operation.

Check the wear of door hinge pins and hinges, top and bottom plates and pivot pins, with replacement if necessary according to the criteria defined in Chapter 1.4.

Check the condition of the frame and doors (criteria related to product quality of the fuel assemblies).

Check the presence and condition of pin retainers and connections (retaining rings, lock pin, set screw, lock washers, presence of thread lock), visual check for absence of deformation.

Check the condition of the ball-lock pins and effectiveness of locking in the yokes according to the criteria defined in Chapter 1.4.

Check the operation of the support leg locking system.

Check for paint defects and rework of deficient areas on the internal and external surfaces of the shells if missing paintwork is identified.

The shock absorbers are subject to the following checks and maintenance operations:

Visual inspection of the condition of the shock absorber (no indentation) every 50 +/- 1 rotations or every 5 years according to the criteria defined in Chapter 1.4.

Dye penetrant inspection of welds (COFREND or equivalent) of the shock absorber every 100 rotations or every 10 years.

(*)

A rotation represents the path followed by the container during a delivery of fuel assemblies between a manufacturing plant where the assemblies are loaded into the container and the site where the assemblies are delivered and unloaded, and the return to a manufacturing plant for container return.
