Daniel H. Dorman has been selected by the Nuclear Regulatory Co m m is s io n as the agencys next Executive Director f or Operations, the highest -

ranking NRC career position, ef fective Oct. 10, 2021. Dorman succeeds Margaret M. Doane, who is leaving the agency f or an in te rn a tio na l career opportunity.

Do rm a n currently serves as the Deputy Executive Director f or Reactor and Preparedness Programs, which include s oversight over all f our re gio n al o f f i c es.

He also previously served as the Acting Deputy Executive Director for Materials, Waste, Research, State, Tribal, Compliance, Administr a tion a n d H u m a n Ca p ita l Pro gra m s.

Dan has a d m ira b ly se rv ed th e NRC f or more than 30 years in key le a d ers h ip p o s itio ns. He is someone who keenly understands the needs of our agency and our people, said NRC Ch a irm a n Christopher T. Hanson. Dan is a problem solver, a champion for agency modernization and innovation, a n d has proven through re s u lts h is a b ility to ra lly our staf f f or a common purpose. He h as earned the respect o f o ur wo rk forc e, th e NRC leadership and the agencys diverse stakeholder s.

Dorman joined the NRC in 1991 as a project engineer in the Of fice of Nuclear Reactor Regulation. In 1999, he was selected as Chief, Quality Assurance and Saf ety Assessment Section, Division of Inspection Program Management, NRR.

Sin c e jo in in g th e Se n ior Executive Service in 2001, Dorman has served in a number o f senior management positions, in c lu d ing D ire c to r, D iv is io n o f Se c u rity O p era tio ns, O ffic e o f N u c le ar Se c u rity and Incident Response and Deputy Of fice Director, Office of Nuclear Material s Saf ety and Saf eguards.

In 2012, he was appointed as Deputy Director f or Engineering and Corporate Support, NRR. In 2014, he was appointed Regional Administrator f or Region I, King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, which conducts inspection and oversight of power reactors in th e N o rth e a s t a n d m a te ria ls lic e n s es in th e Ea s te rn U. S.

Dorman served as a submarine officer in the U.S. Navy s nuclear power program with a s u b s p e c ia lty in jo in t in te llige n c e o p e ra tion s. H e re c eiv e d a b a c h elo rs degree in naval architecture and marine engineering f rom the Webb Institute of Naval Architecture.

He received the NRC's Meritorious Service Award in 1998 and the Presidential Rank Meritorious Executive Award in 2008.

The NRC also announced today th a t Da rre ll J. Ro b e rts, c urre n tly th e D e p u ty Ex e c u tiv e D ire c to r f o r Ma te ria ls, Wa s te, Re s e a rc h, Sta te, Trib a l, Co m p lia n ce, A d min is tra tio n a n d H u ma n Ca p ita l Pro gra m s, will replace Dorman, effective Oct. 10.

Roberts joined the NRC in 1989 as a reactor engineer intern in NRR. He received a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering f rom Virginia Tech and a masters degree in Technical Management f rom Johns Hopkins University. Ro b e rts is a graduate of NRCs SES Candidate Development Program.

Catherine Haney will replace Roberts, a ls o ef fective Oct. 10. Sh e c u rre n tly is th e A s s is ta n t f o r Operations, in th e O f f ice o f th e ED O. Sh e joined the NRC in 1981 as a Health Physicist Intern in the f ormer Of fice of Inspection and Enforcement.

Haney received a bachelors degree in Radiological Technology f rom the University of Maryland and a masters degree in Radiological Science from Emory University. She is a graduate of NRCs SES Candidate Development Program.
