ITEMS OF INTEREST FOR THE COMMISSION COMMISSION PAPER ON RADIATION THERAPY MISADMINISTRATION The staff is preparing a Commission Paper on Radiation Therapy misadministration in response to staff requirements memorandum.COMFB 86-3, which has a due date of April 14, 1987. The Commission Paper will be submitted late January 1987 and will include an advance notice of proposed rulemaking that will request public comment on the scope of the rule.

In addition, the staff will include, as part of the Commission package, a set of quality assurance requirements for radiation therapy in the form of an immediately effective rule or order which medical licensees involved in therapeutic uses of radioactive materials will be required to implement.

These requirements are mainly related to good procedural practice but will .

not include significant capitol expenditure for additional equipment. The latter will be censidered in the more broad rulemaking being addressed in the ANPR.
