Dear Mr. Pecora:
i On September 26, 1967 I sent you volume I of the Preliminary l
Safety Analysis Reports filed by the Department of Water and i
l Pouer of the City of Los Angeles and by' Southern California Edicon Company and San Diego Gas and Electric Company in connection with the Bolsa Island project for your review.
1 Since then the Commission has received from the Secretary of 1
the Interior the report of the ad hoc advisory committee appointed by the Secretary in the Spring of 1966.
As stated by Chairman ~Seaborg in his letter of November 1 to the 4i Secretary of the. Interior, "The committee's conclusions are enpoeted to be important considerations in the AEC evaluation of the nuclear safety aspects of this cooperative project Although we have not yet received the part of the construction permit application dealing with the design of the proposed facility, we are now in a position to begin the regulatory review of the case.
This will involve technical evaluation, from the standpoint of radiological safety, of the suitability of'the site and of the facility design by the Commission's regulatory staff, by the statutory Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards, and then by an atomic safety and licensing board in a public hearing.
Confirming my telephone call to you on November 3, we will need the technical assistance of the Geological Survey in conducting our staff review of the geological and hydrological features of 8710'20058-J 07foif ^.
