J, ,,,,,,,,,,.,,,,,,,,,.,,i.,.,j,.,,,.i OA. t l I pcar Mr. Shaw: We have your request that the Coological Survey officially release the report by Robert O. Castic, " Preliminary Study of the Geology at Two Proposed Sites for a Nuclear-Powered Desalting Plant l near Sunset Beach and Pelican Point, Orange County, California," so l that it may become part of the public record in line with the licens-ing procedures of the AEC. t The preparation of thic report was undertaken by the Ccological Survey at the request of your Division. -It presented a surr.ary of the availabic knowledge of the geology of the Bolsa Island site and served the very useful purpose of cierting interested persons to conditions f' that needed careful study in evaluating the site for purpoces of a reactor installation. The report served the purpose well, but sinca its completion in 1966 much additional information has been developed to provide a sounder basis for conclusions. In these circumstances, it would bc inadvisable to incorporate the Castic report in.the public record on equal footing with reports based on lator end more completc infor=ation. However, the report presumably-is subject to introduction. into the record by some participant in the public hearings. The Survey is willing, of course,,to approve its release if the report is essential ~ to "the record and if it can be held in proper perspective through in-corporation of this letter into the record with the report. Sincerely yours,,.. 3 .es a. >- w ..w. l Director' 0~f Q'
