20242 Dear Mr. Pecora As you know, the report, " Preliminary Study of the Geology at Two Proposed Sites for a Nuclear-Powered Desalting Plant Near Sunset Beach and Pelican Point, Orange County, California", by Robert O. Castle, was prepared by the Geological Survey in response to a request from Mr. Walter C. Belter of the Division of Reactor Development and Technology a little more than two years ago. This report sumarized then-available data on geological conditions and provided a' basis for further detailed geologic investigations to evaluate the proposed Bolsa Island site.
It provided useful back-ground data to the Department of Interior Advisory Cocmittee on Geological-Seismological Conditions Pertaining to Siting of Nuclear Power and Desalting Plants.
Applications for construction permits for the Bolsa Island site have now been filed with AEC, and the report of the Advisory Comittee has been cocpleted and transmitted to AEC by the Secretary of Interior.
Therefore, we request that Mr. Castlets report be officially released by the Geological Survey so that it also may become part of the public record, in line with the licensing procedures of the AEC.
