A n t~ l Dr. Glenn T. Seabor6 ~ ~ ~7M# _-3 '

Chairman h 1ho--

Atomic Ener6y commission Washin6 ton, DsC. '.

Dear Dr. Seabor6:

California, the beautiful, may not be for lon6 with c'rowd-in6, smo6 and exploitation of natural resources. If can is to avoid disaster resultin6 from the disregard of the delicate balance of nature, he must act now with foresi6ht, understand-in6, and wisdom.

We question, therefore, the need of the proposed atomic power plant at Bodega Head. Here is a project that can aesth-etica11y ruin one of the last, most beautiful, and most bio-logically versatile seashores in the West. In fact, prodte er Alfred Hitchcock chose the setting for his latest film The Birds, because of the " remote beauty of the lonely Marin coast, and its quaint seaport which is a rarity to find."

You and your Commission would know the dangers involved in radiation levels. We are aware, however, that the plant is a short-term investment designed for profit, but not for the most efficient production or atomic energy. Of course,  ;

it is difficult to attach a dollar si5n to beauty.

It is not that we are against industrial progress; iron-ically one of the PG&E representatives, Dr. Leslie Carbert, best expresses our philospphy when he said recently, "Indus-try must face a new morality, an obligation and responsibili-ty to the need of the public; it must reco6nize a compromise between nature and man. . ..that man needs beauty and freedom."

The Bodega Head, recently considered for a park, is a priceless herita6e of coastline a scenic recreational i and ecolo61 cal asset. .. .an assel that can'b e written off' by irresponsible industria11zation. Our present decisions shape the future. ~ l 9 N g ,rQ\?fh \
