At the Cons:ission's request, the U. S. Occiogical Survef,  ; Department of the Interior, has been conducting a thorough field study of the geology of Bodega Eay sinco early May. In additi.on, expert consultants have been retained to assist the AEC regulator / staff in evaluating Pacific Gas a Electric Ccapan;'s application with respect to the selsnology of the area and structural design of the proposc4 plant. 'Ibe Coast and Geodetic Survey of the U. S. Departuant of Ccenorce also is acelsting us in our evalusta.on of the seismolog;/. A report dated Septcaber 25, 1963 se:. ting forth the resuhe or field work at the cite through June 6,1963 has been rubtaitted to the Atmic Energy Cannission by the Departnont of the Interior. . i A copy of an AEC public announcement conceming the report is I onclosed. You will note that a further geological repo-t has been reque=ted frm the Department of the Interior. Final action on the Pacific Gas a Electri: Cce. pay appucation will not be takan until the additional report requested of the Department of the Interior has been received and evaluated. In addition, a construction pcmit will not be issued unicas the Cannt selon, follwing a public hearing and a decision b/ the Atanic Safet7 and Licensing Scard and consideration of all factors bearing upon saf6ty is convinced that the facility can be con-atnicted and operated at the proposed locatian without undae risk to the health and safety of the public.
