At the Comission's request, the U. S. Geological Survey, Deparusent of the Interior, has been conducting a thorough field study of :.he geology of Dodega Bay ainee early Hay. In addition, expert, consultants have been retained to assist the AEC regulatory staff in evaluating Pacific Gas a Electric Compargr'e application with respect to the asismology of the area and structural design of the proponod plant. The Coast and Geodetic Survey of the U. S. Department of Cannerce also is assisting us l

in our evaluation of the scissaology.

A report dated September 23, 1963 setting forth the results of field work at the site through June 6,1963 has been submitted to the Atomic Energy Commission bj-the Department of the Interior.

A copy of. n AEC public announcement concerning the report is j

a enclosed. ' Iou will note that a further geological report has been j

requested from the Department of the Interior.'

Final action on the Pacific Gas & Electric Courpany application will not be taken ur.til the additional report requested of the l

Department of the Interior has been received and evaluated. In l

1 addition, a construction permit vill not be issued unless the J

Cocnission, following a public hearing and a decision try the I

Atomic Safoty and Licensing Board and consideration of all factors l

bearing upco safety is' convinced that the facility can be con-l l
