'THE SIERRA CLUB FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Milis Tower San Francisco 4, Calif.-

Tel:- 835-8330 (Oakland)

-Mr. Phillip S. Berry SIERRA CLUB COURT ACTION AGAINST BODEGA A-PLANT l

l The Pacific Gas and Electric.Compar y has not proven its' need for Bodega Head as a power plant site, the Sierra Club charged today in a brief filed with'the State Supreme. Court in San Francisco.

i "The proposed reactor will take a priceless. scenic resource q

1 for its site, but will produce.nothing but common kilowatts.

This energy should come from transformation of common resources, not from transformation of~ unique park sites," tNe club stated '

in a " friend of the court" brief filed Monday in support of a petition for writ of review filed in September by the Northern California Association to Preserve. Bodega Head, from orders of the Fublic Utilities Commission.

PG&E has contended that the proposed nuclear plant would be 1

an " economic breakthrough," producing electricity from atomic energy that is about the same price as. electricity from conventional fuels.

,\\

But, "it is not really-a breakthrough' at Bodega Head if no i

other site is competitive," said the Sierrh Club.

PG&E "has

\\

merely demonstrated the Head's. uniqueness wNen its proof shows Jt that only with the most fortuitous proximity.gf bay, ocean and

\\

penninsula, can the nuclear process.be. competitive."
