I Dear Sirs I wish that the Atomic Energy Ccamnission and the Pacific Gas and Electric Company voit1d abandon the arrogant semantic irresponsibility manifest in the f
use of the words " credible" and " incredible" in relation to anticipated or un-anticipated seismic effects. Quite a few people died in Crescent City, California,
[
because they considered.the potential effects of the earthquake in Alaska
?
- incredible". One often encounters in the newspapers the adjective " incredible" applied to the forces associated with a major earthquake. But nevertheless such f orces were released. Now I see by the papers that a new schene for'the reactor 1
at Bodega Head will compensate for the " incredible event of a horizontal motion of one foot".
In an actively seismic region where the annual creep is in the order of two inches, I would submit that no violent or abrupt movement, even in the order of thirty feet, should be considered " incredible". What this' language really seems to mean is that those responsible - or irresponsible - for the plans to construct reactors in dubious locations simply refuse to anticipate the pos-sibilities.
Very truly yours,
)
