f Mr. Coorge Little..

As you know, each license issued by the Atomic Energy Commission fu =+waiar operation of a reactor contains provisions concerning Y

p-4 --me levels of radioactivity in reactor effluents.- The AEC reviews in detail the monitoring systems incorporated into the design of the reactor and the proposed procedures for opera-tien of such syst es. Licensees must maintain records showing radioactivity released into the air or water and measurements taken at their monitoring stations. Licensees make these reports 2

I available for inspection by the Atomic Energy Consission. Re-leases of radioactivity in arcess of applicable limits must be re-ported to the AEC. The ABC is authorized to take appropriate-action in the event of violation of the tems of a license.

t te government and local authorities are kept informed of communications between the Cosmission and those who seek author-

-Y sation to build and operate a power reactor from the time of submittal of an application through the issuance of a construe.

s J'.cf tion pemit, the operating license, and such amendments to the Ca lioense as might be issued subsequently. In addition, it is Q
