a, Mr. John T. Conway l
Executive Director j
l l
Joint Committee on Atosde Energy The Capitol vanhington, D. C.
Dear Mr. Conways Your letter of July 15 and the occioned report of July 13
)
from the Atomic EnerEy Commission on the proposed Bodega nuclear power plant have been considered by Senator Engl.e. He asked me to thank you for sending the report and to expnsa his hope that the l
i future hazards analysis of the cosasission's regulatory staff may in fact satisfy the objective of 8. J. Res.167 and L J. Res.1008.
This remains to be deterndnad.
Senator Engle observed, for==T a, that the Commission's i
nport to you signed by Mr. Price speaks only of a aquired "fiM4ag that the issaance of the pemit will not, in the opinion of the Coe-mission, be iniciical to the health and safety of the public." An express of opinion by the Coannission is somethin6 loss than a certi-fication to the Congress of the Boological adequacy and seisiniosafety -
i of the Bodega site, as aquired by v.no proposed resolution.-
Accordingly, it is the Senator's jud8 ment that the objective of the proposed resolution is not bein6 met by the Conssission's pro.
I cedures under present law. Fbr this ramaan Senator Engle urges that
- 8. J. Bes.167 zooeive invorable consideration in order that the Con-gross may deterudne the resolution of this crucial public issue.
I

sincerely yours, 4
