SHARON CONNELLY PLACED ON ADMINISTPATIVE LEAVE; GARY J. EDLES NAMED ACTING DIRECTOR OF OIA Sharon R. Connelly, Director of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Office of Inspector and Auditor, has been placed on administrative leave with pay while the Commission completes its review of matters involving allegations related to some members of the Office of Inspector and Auditor (0IA).
Gary J. Edles has been appointed Acting Director of OIA until further Mr. Edles is a judge on the NRC's Atomic Safety and Licensing notice.

NRC Chairman Nunzio J. Palladino said these actions are effective at the close of business January 28, 1986. The decision to place Ms. Connelly on administrative leave does not imply a judgment on the facts by the Commission, noriis it a punitive action, Chairman Palladino said.

Mr. Edles has been a member of the Atomic Safety and Licensing Appeal Panel since 1981. He received his undergraduate degree frcm Queens College' cf the City l'niversity of New York in 1962. He obtained his JD in 1965 erk University Law School.
From 1965 to 1967, he was a from the New v Teaching Fellow at The George Washington University Law School, frem which he acquired the graduate law degrees of LLM and JSD in 1966 and 1975, respectively.
Between 1967 and 1980, Mr. Edles was employed by the Civil Aeronautics Scard, where he rose,through the ranks to become Deputy General Ccunsel.

In 1980, he became Director of the 350-member Office of Proceedinos in the Irterstate Converce Commission, from which position he came to NRC.
