10 CFR 50 Appendix J, Section Ill.D.2(b)(ii), states that " Air locks open-ed during periods when containment integrity is not required by the plant Tech-nical Specifications shall be tested at the end of such periods at not less t h an P a" .

However, Technical Specification surveil lance requirenent 4.6.1.3.b requires an overall air lock leak rate test at a (44.7 psig) to be performed only "Upon completion of maintenance which has been performed on the air lock that could affect the air lock sealing capability". Therefore, since this technical specification constitutes a deviation from the subject regulation, we are requesting an exemption with respect to the requirements of 10 CFR 50, Appendix J, Section ll1.D.2(b)(ii). This request is in accordance with the provisions of 10 CFR 50.12 and reflects an identical exemption granted for BV-1, dated November 19, 1984 and described in the NRC SER for Amendment No. 85 to the BV-1 Technical Specifications.
