SUMMARY
OF MEETING ifELD ON MARCH 3,1975 WTI1I NSE MANAGEICE TO DISCUSS DIABID CA?n0N GEDIDGIC RO SEISMIC ISSUES On Mazuh 3, 1975, members of the NRC staff met in Bethesda with PGSE nanagement. A e nplete list of attendees is given in Enclosure No.
1.
The purpose c.2 the meeting was to discuss geologic and seismic aspects of the Diablo Canyon site with top PGSE management.
The staff began by discussing the request for additional infomation which was tzunsnitted to MSE on Felruary 12, 1975; this request contained five questims related to the offshre faults in the vicinity of the Diablo Canyon site. The staff emphasized that PGSE should subnit ocrnprehensive answers to these questions as soon as possible in crder to expec.ite the review process. With regard to the 1927 offslure earthquake, the staff stated that there may not be a definitive solution regarding the location of this event, and that a hiaim will have to be made based on all data that are g
available. With regard to the relationship of the Hosgri ard San Simeon Faults, the staff stressed that MSE slould consider in their argunents all possible alternatives rather than the single track approach.
The existing offshore oil company data were then discussed, including the possibility of examination of the Shell Oil Company data by l
I PGSE and/or the staff. The staff suggested that perhaps a four party protective agreement could be reached to facilitate examination of these data.
C. Stepp of the staff irrHented that he hoped to be able to examine scxne of these data next week.

2-j IGSE indicated that numeruns offshors mai-in ptofiles wre available fram the Western Geophysical Company, and that they (PGSE) oculd pruride seveml of these to the staff. The ctaff agreed that these profiles may be helpful in the review, and it was agreed that PGSE would be advised as to which data 'should be obtained.
The availahility of the offshnzw data of Silver (fomerly with USGS, now with University of California at Santa Cruz? ma thert diamaaed.
To date, these data have not been made availaFls outside of USGS. The staff agreed to contact Silver regmiing exmination of these data.
With regarti to==4=ic design, the staff indicated that once a g valua is agreed upon, we will require an analysis of all structures and s-W ui.s to detemina. their response urder this g lnading. ACRS had also stated.this; pol:rt at the Diablo Canyon %hmanittee Meeting on Fetruary 18 - 19, 1975.
In uus.Ai.lon with mai-in design, the subject of seismic scrun as diseassed. PGSE does not believe that adeounte bases for a seimnic gagpeng scrun have been es+=h14=hed, although the ACRS seerre to feel that such a scrum may be desirable.
'Ihe meeting concluded with PGSE stating that they will supply responses to all outstanding geology and sahls qusstims es socsi c3 possible.
The staff indicated that the review ochr.hle will depoxl on the timirgr j
and content of these rw pcs w.
