This confims a telephone call of 3:30 p.m. on April 20, 1983 between J. D. Tcusend of pGandE and T. Bishop of NRC Region V.
This notification was mde pursuant to Technical Specification 6.9.1.12.c for Unit 1.
During the reinstallation of the radiant insulation on the discharge piping of reactor coolant pump number thme, workers discovered grinder and rotary file gouges.in four areas on the piping surface; near the reactor coolant pump casing weldrent.
An investigation is currently underway to detemine the probable cause followed by approved corrective action.
The investigation will attenpt to detennine if the damge was the result of industrial sabotage.
In the event that the gouges are attributed to sabotage, notification will be mde pursuant to 10 CFR Part 73.71 as discussed with Mr. McQueen of NRC Region V.
Corrective action is being detemined and will be included in the
~ Licensee Event Report which will follow by May 3,1983.
