SUMMARY

SU8 CATEGORY / ELEMENT 235.8(8)

This concern was raised on W8N and is considered generic to SQN since PVC j jacketed conduits are also used in containment and valve room areas at

SQN..

The element is not an SQN Restart item since the PVC jacketed conduit

  • will not adversely affect the ability of the systems or components to perform their safety functions during a design basis event (DBE). The PVC jacketed conduits enhance the ability of the included cables to withstand BETA radiation on a LOCA environment. The conduit assembly with the PVC jacket was environmentally qualified in a test conducted by Central Laboratories, C186-86-1155. This test demonstrated the PVC jacket on the conduit would remain intact for two hours at 3600F. This is well above the primary loop loss of coolant accident (LOCA) and main steam line break (MSLB) temp of 3270F for 30 minutes and 3040F for 83 minutes, b
