AFFIDAVIT OF JAMES A. MACDONALD (TOK 4)
JAMES A. MACDONALD, being on oath, deposes and says as follov's:
1.
I am the Radiological Assessment Manager for New Hampshire Yankee.
My qualifications are a matter of record before the Board in these proceedings.
2.
An evaluation was conducted of the Kensington Elementary School based upon visual inspection and actual measurements of the outside of the building and windows in order to approximate its sheltering factor.
3.
The methodology used for the evaluation was, " Structure Shielding from Cloud and Fallout of Gamma Ray Sources for 8704030356 B70325 PDR ADOCK 05000443 g
1 n
Assessing the Consequences of Reactor Accidents," December 1975 to determine the shielding factor or dose reduction factor for the Kensington Elementary School.
4.
Based on a calculation, attached hereto and marked "A",
the evaluation concluded that the overall external shielding factor or dose reduction factor is approximately 0.77.
5.
I have visually inspected the outside of the building and had actual measurements taken under my direction.
I have reviewed the methodology, calculations and conclusion of the evaluation and concur with the results.

SHELTERING CALCULATIONS Kensington Elementary School Based on measurements and observations of 3/24/87 See Floor Plan Attached Sheltering factor is based on wall and roof material, thickness, and percentage of total areal Asphalt Roof
- SF = 0.9 (10% dose reduction)
Concrete Wall /
Brick Faced
- SF = 0.38 (60% dose reduction)
Glass Wall
- SF = 1.0 (0% dose reduction)
Using these values and percentages calculated for each shielding material, the average sheltering factor for the building would be:
