a.

Bolts are the correct length as indicated by having the bolts flush with, or outside of, the face of the nut when conpletely installed.

~

b.

Turning elements are on the correct face.

c.

Washers are used when required.

i NOTE:

For long slotted holes, structural plate washers or a continuous bar not less than 5/16" thick are required to cover long slots l

that are in the outer plies of joints.

d.

Bolt heads and nuts shall rest squarely against the metal or washer.

.q e.

Where bolts are used on surfaces having slopes greater 0]

than 1-in-20 with a plane normal to the bolt axis, beveled washers shall be provided to give full bearing I

to the head or nut.

'l f.

When " Turn-of-nut" method is used for bolt tightenin'g, the impact wrench or other pneumatic device does not t.

require calibration.

However, the device shall be of adequate capacity and sufficiently supplied with air to Ji perform the required tightening of each bolt in 1

approximately ten seconds.

When this method is used, the following steps will be followed by construction:

'l 1.

All bolts in each joint shall first be brought to

_i a " snug tight" condition (snug tight is defined as

{

the tightness attained by a few impacts of an impact wrench or the full effort of a man using an ordinary spud wrench) iA 2.

All the nuts shall then be match-marked using an 1;

approved industrial marker, i.e.: Nissen; which

has certified contents.

3.

All the bolts in the joint shall then be tightened by the applicable amount of nut rotation specified in Attachment 6.

i ATTAGEENT 1 A.

GENERAL The following is intended to give a basic understanding of Seismic support of class 1-E conduit and junction boxes according to drawing 2323-S-910.

i Conduit originates and ends with a junction box, equipment (meters, panel s, ins trunents) cable trays, etc. and are installed according to seris.s LA of LS.

These drawing's indicate the location of the support in relation to other supports on the conduit based on a span or a weight capacity.

1 Individual supports are shown in various other series of the S-910 drawing package.

These drawings nonnally indicate fabrication tolerances, pplication of the hanger, intended use (transverse or multi-' directional), the required plane of the conduit, means of conduit attachment to the hanger, and various other applicable notes.

B.

DEFINITIONS

~

NOTE:

Where definitions or diagrams conflict with applicable engineering

drawing, the drawing shall govern.

'1.

Supports are designed to resist movement about 'various planes:

a.

Transverse - supports conduit in two directions, both perpendicular to the long axis of the conduit.

b.

Multi-directional - supports condui t in all directions, transverse and longitudinal (parallel to the axis of pipe) c.

Transverse capacity is " measured half-way between supports on each side of the ' transverse or multidirectional hange r.

Transverse span is the distance between two adjacent transverse hangers.

d.

Longitudinal capacity is measured half-way between supports on each side of a multidirectional hanger.

Longi tudinal span is the distance between two adjacent multi-directional supports.
