Dear Mr Briam:

Pursuant to NUREG-0654, Revision 1, Appendix 1, the following is a sumary report concerning the following Unusual Event at the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant site.

On March 30,1986, Unit 2 was being maintained at 410 MW while a tube leak repair was being made in the southeast quadrant of the condenser. At 0300 PST a manual unit trip was initiated due to the occurrence of a tube leak in the southwest quadrant of the condenser.

A safety injection occurred at 0301 PST due to a high steam line flow concurrent with a low reactor coolant system temperature average. An Unusual Event was declared by the Shift Foreman at 0301 PST and emergency notifications were begun.

At 0308 PST, March 30, 1986, the safety injection was terminated, the plant stabilized and the Unusual Event was concluded. This event has in no way affected the health and safety of the public and no discharge of radioactive materials was made to the environment.
