WASHINGTON, DC 20555 DEAR MR. BRADFORD, I am writing to express my support for the DIABLO CANYON BLOCKADE.

Evidence has come to my attention from the ALLIANCE FOR SURVIVAL, various credited scientists, and other persons concerned about the safety of NUCLEAP. POWER.

1) NUCLEAR WASTE- what can we do with it? We can't re-cycle it. We can store it for only so long before the containers corrode from the inside due to the radiation and the natural elements outside. Nuclear waste has a life of a few thousar.? years. I know I won't be around then, but what about the future generations who will have to deal with the problems because of our ignorance now?

2) NUCLEAR ACCIDENTS AND FALLOUT- We've just had first-hand experience with THREE MILE ISLAND what a small accident can do.

was an accident, people who did get away won't be far enough to-do l any good. Fallout could destroy 100 square miles in no time, rend-  ;

ering it uninhabitable for years. In SAN ONOFRE, I am glad the N. R. C. closed down the plant because of the corrosion to the hold- l

ers of the nuclear rods. Where is the logic that 'says this can't

happen anywhere else?!!

b Now, about the so-called earthquake-proof Diablo Canyon '

plant, only a few miles away from an earthquake fault. In the ,

. i j San Fernando Valley we had, for a short time, a hospital that was  ;

] designed to withstand an earthquake with a severity of 7.5 on the

-i j new Richter Scale. It was destroyed less than a year after it was i r  ;

l built by a 6.5 earthquake, killing more than 60 people. This was  !

i Olive View Hospital, destroyed during the 1971 Sylmar earthquake.

j The County didn't even bother to rebuild. Some of the facts are  !

l, difficult for me to remember, since I was only twelve at the time.  !

Both groups are opposed to nuclear energy, not only because of the i

danger, but because of the economics involved. New . iscoveries of .

natural gas have relieved the pressure of a cricical shortage as  ;

was once feared a few years ago. Natural gas can produce enough steam to turn the turbines at Diablo Canyon 1 and 2, and San Onofre 2 and 3. Another source is the solar collector. A solar collector i

with copper rods can have the same offect as gas with only' the sun i providing the energy. And there's always plenty of that in Calif- l

4) POLITICAL SITUATION- ever since I can remember, the  !

I government has had a dangerous closeness to the nuclear industry.

I think that if you poled everyday, middle-class people such as me, you would find that most aren't in favor of nuclear power, t
