SUBJECT:

SAFETY EVALUATION OF THE INSPECTION AND REPAIRS ON THE OYSTER CREEK ISOLATION CONDENSER SYSTEM PIPING (TAC #55173)

The Materials Engineering Branch, Division of Engineering, has reviewed the submittals from General Public Utilities Nuclear (GPUN) regarding the inspection and repairs to the Isolation Condenser (IC) system piping.

2 All IC piping welds outside the containment and 15 IC piping welds inside the containment were ultrasonically inspected.

A total of 27 welds outside the containment were reported to show crack-like indications.

Of these, nine (9) welds were replaced and 18 welds were overlay repaired.

We have concluded that the inspection and repair were performed satisfactorily, and the plant can be safely returned to power until the next refueling outage.

Our Safety Evaluation Report (SER) and Region I's input to this SER are attached.
