DRAFT WORXii40 PAPER G II. DESCRIPTION OF PLANT

{

Pacific Gas and Electric Company's Diablo Canyon Nuclear Station is essentially completed.

It is located on the Pacific Ocean near i

San Luis Obispo. Diablo Canyon is a dual reactor plant (two Westinghouse PWRs, each having a design capacity of 1100MWe). Construction permits were issued by NRC for Unit 1 in 1968, and Unit 2 in 1970. The units were largely completed in the mid-1970s, but have been involved in a number of intervenor suits and related hearings, as well as substantial.

modifications arising from changes in seismic requirements, the discovery of additional faults, the Brown's Ferry incident, the Three Mile Island accident, environmental issues, and regulatory changes.

4 The NRC granted the Licensee operating licenses for Diablo Canyon 1 and 2 in September 1981, and suspended them in November 1981, following-disclosure that the diagrams used to locate the vertical seismic floor

}

response spectra in Unit I containment annulus area were in error. The h

Licensee hopes to commence power operation in 1983.
