I i l REPORT OF INTERVIEW WITH RAY DEWEY WYRICK WYRICK, Quality Control Supervisor, Innovative Weaponry, Inc. (IWI) of Nevada, was interviewed at the offices of IWI, Albuquerque, New Mexico, on October 20, 1995, by Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Senior Investigator Virginia Van Cleave and Investigator Dennis Boal. WYRICK related the following information in substance:

4 WYRICK said he has been the quality control supervisor for 1 year and has worked at IWI for 2 years. WYRICK said he ensures the sights with the tritium inserts are of high quality and inspects the sights when they are made into j separated colors and are on a magnetic board. WYRICK said he brushed, oiled, and packaged the sights as necessary. WYRICK said he did not keep track of the sales of the sights.

4 WYRICK said IWI has sold approximately 20 sets of " red sights" to Miniature Machine Corporation (MMC). WYRICK said he took about 40 sets of " red sights" to the Soldier of Fortune show in Las Vegas, Nevada, on September 27-29, 1995.

WYRICK said he sold 10 sets of the sights at the show.

WYRICK said Patricia WILSON, IWI Executive Vice President, told him to hold the red tritium because there was a problem. WYRICK said he was unable to recall when WILSON provided that direction.

WYRICK said he had some of the rejected sights from MMC in his office. WYRICK said MMC was extremely " picky" and rejected some of the IWI sights.

INVESTIGATOR'S NOTE: WYRICK left the interview and was requested to return after Audrey S. PEREA, IWI Tritium Room Supervisor, told investigators she had inserted green South African tritium into approximately 400 sights and given them to WYRICK.

WYRICK said he could not tell the difference between South African and Canadian tritium once it was in the gun sight. WYRICK said South African tritium was a little brighter but was also newer. WYRICK said he did not know if the night sights had South African or Canadian tritium in them. All sights given to him by the tritium room are sorted by type of sight and are sold as orders are received. Consequently, if PEREA gave him sights with South African tritium, they were placed with the other sights, some of which have been sold and some of which are still in the order room.
