i i.0 PURPOSE / DISCUSSION

1.1 The purpose of this procedure ;is to'5rovide instructions' for the coerator during periods before and -during hurricanes, tornados and severe weather.

L 1.2 This procedure will interface with Emergency Plan Procedure 10-S-01-10, Natural Occurrences, and possibly other Emergency Plan Procedure.

1.3 Transformers, switchyard, and transmission lines are very vulnerable to storms, and total loss of off-site power should be anticipated and prepared for.

Other equipment and structures in the outside areas are likely to be damaged and all possible precautionary measures should be taken.

2.0 SYMPTOMS 2.1 A tornado warning or severe weather is in effect.

Notification may be from either the Load Dispatcher (who is required to notify GGNS of severe weather) or any other available source.

l 3.0 AUTOMATIC ACTIONS 3.1 None

%.0 IMMEDIATE OPERATOR ACTIONS 4.1 The Shift Supervisor should call for additional helo, if needed, and assign duties during the tornado warning or severe weather.

4.2 At least one man should be assigned to the diesel generators for the duration of the tornado warning or severe weather.

i 4.3 Manually start the Emergency Diesel Generators and bring them to 1

i operating speed and voltage per SGI 04-1-01-P75-1 and 04-1-01-P81-1.

4.4 Survey the outside areas to determine preventive measures to be taken.

4.5 Lower all outsido cranes to the ground and secure all loose cables.

4.6 Verify gas bottles in and around the plant are properly secured.

4.7 Remove loose material in and around the olant to safe areas.

4.8 Verify doors on transformers, switchyard equipment,, fire hose stations and electrical panels outside., the:-plant'are closed properly..

4.9 Close outside doors and windows;"

4.10 If the storm is to arrive at night, switch on external lights well in advance.

4.11 Stop unnecessary activities, such as fuel handling and transoort of radioactive materials, except as required to place the fuel in a safe location.

4.12 Announce on plant communication system all personnel should take shelter.

5.0 SUBSEQUENT ACTIONS 5.1 Proceed to implement the Emergency Plan as directed by the Shift Supervisor or Shift Superintendent.

5.2 In the event of a total loss of offsite power, refer to ONEP 05-1-02-I-4.

5.3 Return diesel generatcr. to standby after the storm has passed.

5.4 Perform Surveillance Procedure 06-TE-1000-V-0001 after the storm has
