Subject:

Crystal River Unit 3 Docket No. 50-302 Operating License No. DPR-72 Environmental Qualification of Electrical Equipment

Dear Sir:

Florida Power Corporation (FPC) has received your letter dated January 11, 1983, on the above subject. The letter requested FPC to (1) resolve any deficiencies identified by the Franklin Research Center in the justification for continued operation of any of the qualified electrical equipment, and (2) to justify the continued operation of Crystal River Unit 3 for the electrical equipment which the Franklin Research Center, with NRC concurrence, which did not agree with the FPC qualifications.

There were no deficiencies identified by the Franklin Research Center in the justification for continued operation of any of the qualified electrical equipment. FPC is presently reviewing the Technical Evalu-ation Report (TER) from the Franklin Research Center.

As required by 10CFR50.49(g) of the final rule on the environmental qualification of electrical equipment, Florida Power Corporation will submit, on or before May 20, 1983, the identification of the electrical equipment important to safety and a schedule for either the qualifica-tion of or the replacement of the electrical equipment important to safety. FPC's review of the Franklin Research Center's TER will be factored into that submittal. It is our desire that all deficiencies be resolved in a timely manner such that FPC will have sufficient time to replace the equipment, as required, within the time frame of the final rule.
