PILGRIM HUCLEAR POWER STATION DOCKET No. 50-293 Attachment to LER 81-056/01T-0 J

Cause and Corrective Action The CO System was returned to service immediately.

Because the involved indi-s 2

vidual failed to comply with a clearly specified directive from the OperatinT_

5updevisorJemediate disciplinary action in the form of a suspension was instituted.

Boston Edison recognizes that this event combined with the results of internal audits and previous assessments as well as various enforcenent findings indi-cates weakness in the implementation of our Fire Protection Program. Ateord-ingly, long term corrective action had already been initiated by enlisting the services of corporate management to assist in the reassessment of the implementation elements of the existing Fire Protection Program.. The associ-

' (

ated corrective action plan is intended to focus primarily on the identified s

weaknesses in fire protection as well as picking up elements of industrial safety. It will include re-estimation of the resources"tequired'to'idplement the existing and anticipated fire protection requirements and recommendations on alternative methods to satisfy those requirements.

'. y Although not directly related to the identified weaknesaes, proposed revisions to the Technical Specifications have been in development to address receptly completed and in-progress fire protection modificaticas. Consideration, vill be given to correct minor inconsistencies and arsb1guities regarding the appli-s i

cation of fire watches and patrols.

s c.

Boston Edison is committed to the implementation of a strong and effective fire prevention and protection program and is acutely aware of the detrimental, effects that a fire could create. We also believe that the actions taken and planned to date reinforce that commitment.
