DOCKET NO. 50-293

-Attachment to LER 80-078/0lT-0 Description On October 30, 1980, tha ORC reviewed the results of an analysis of the Salt Service Water (SSW) System conducted in response to IE Bulletin 79-14.

The review indicated that the original seismic analysis for the Salt Service Water System took credit for a seismic anchor located beyond the outboard isolation valves. The seismic anchors in this case are the screen wash pumps.

However, recent analyses for adequate tornado missile protection has revealed that this anchor point extends beyond the missile protected area, thereby jeopardizing operability of the SSW should a tornado induced missile impact at this anchor point.

To permit continued reactor operation until a modification of the SSW system could be implemented, which would preclude adverse consequence from this remote, postulated event, a " Request for Immediate Relief from Technical Specification 3.5.B", was requested and received.

Cause and Corrective Action As an interim measure, a temporary operating procedure had been implemented and remained in effect until these modifications were completed. This procedure i required the facility to be immediately shut down in the event a Tornado Warning l in the immediate area is issued.

Analysis indicet>< that the permanent correction action would be to relocate the seismic anchors ' side the tornado barriers. These mdofications were completed on November 6, 1980.
