Event Description

On March 23, 1977 at approximately 1245 hours0.0144 days
0.346 hours
0.00206 weeks
4.737225e-4 months
, smoke was observed in the _ area of 250V DC Motor Control Center D9.

Further investigation traced the source of smoke to breaker 72-944, powar supply to HPCI steam supply motor operated valve M02301-3. The breaker was de-energized and maintenance investigation found the undervoltage coil burnt out.

The burnt undervoltage coil and relay assembly were removed.

Replacement under-voltage coils of a larger capacity were evaluated and PDCR 76-89 issued to permanently resolve this problem.. While this study is in progress, the per-missives for undervoltage protection for motor operated valve MO-2301 have been jumpered in accordance with approved station operating procedures. The breaker was returned to servic.e and tested at approximately 1745 hours0.0202 days
0.485 hours
0.00289 weeks
6.639725e-4 months
on March 23, 1977 and the HPCI_was declared operable.

J During the Re'fue'1'IV Outage, the above undervoltage coil and reiay assesiy- ~

and similar units on other safety related equipment were upgraded. PDCR 76-89 has been completed.'
