LER ATTACIDfENT - RO NO. 1-80-19 Facility: BSEP Unit No. 1 Event Date: March 18, 1980 A GE technical representative was on-site for two days to observe calibration

~

of, and perform troubleshooting on, the main steamline radiation monitors. He found a weak Zener diode (VR6) in all three drawers checked on Unit No. 2 and recommended that we change out VR6 in all monitors.

This was done on Unit No. 2, in a refueling outage, and will be performed on Unit No. 1 during its refueling outage scheduled to start later this month. The technical representative also recommended several procedural changes, the most significant being a "zero" check and adjustment on a weekly basis. - These procedures are now being revised, and all monitors will be calibrated using these new procedures during the 1980 refueling outages.
