UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 November 13, 2015 Mr. Michael P. Gallagher Vice President, License Renewal Projects Exelon Generation Company, LLC 200 Exelon Way P.O. Box 500 Kennett Square, PA 19348

SUBJECT:

NOTICE OF AVAILABILITY OF THE FINAL PLANT-SPECIFIC SUPPLEMENT 55 TO THE GENERIC ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT FOR LICENSE RENEWAL OF NUCLEAR PLANTS REGARDING BRAIDWOOD STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 (TAC NOS. MF1832, MF1833, MF1792, AND MF1793)

Dear Mr. Gallagher:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has completed final plant-specific Supplement 55 to NUREG-1437, Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants (GElS), regarding the renewal of operating licenses NPF-72 and NPF-77 for an additional 20 years of operation for Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2 (Braidwood). Enclosed is a copy of the final supplement and the associated Federal Register Notice of Availability to be published. This notice advises the public that the final supplement is publicly available at the NRC public document room (PDR) or from the NRC's Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS). ADAMS is accessible from the NRC website at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html. The ADAMS Accession Number for final Supplement 55 is ML15314A814. In addition, the Fossil Ridge Library, 386 W. Kennedy Road, Braidwood, Illinois 60408, has agreed to make the draft supplement available.

As discussed in Chapter 5 of the final supplement, the recommendation is that the adverse environmental impacts of license renewal for Braidwood are not great enough to deny the option of license renewal for energy-planning decisionmakers. This recommendation is based on:

(1) the analysis and findings in the GElS; (2) review of the Braidwood Environmental Report; (3) consultation with Federal, State, local, and Tribal agencies; (4) the NRC staff's independent review; and (5) the NRC staff's consideration of public comments received during the scoping process and on the draft supplement.

A separate Notice of Availability of the final supplemental environmental impact statement will be placed in the Federal Register through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact Mr. Richard Baum, Project Manager, for the environmental review of the Braidwood license renewal application, by telephone at 301-415-0018 or by e-mail at Richard.Baum@nrc.gov.

Sincerely,

/RA/
