Reference:
Letter, M. 0. Medford, SCE, to 3. A. Zwolinski, NRC, dated October 4, 1985 One of the recommendations of NUREG-0829, "Integrated Plant Safety Assessment," for San Onofre Unit 1 was that SCE perform a reliability evaluation of the Saltwater Cooling (SWC) System. In the referenced letter we committed to perform such a study.
Enclosed is a reliability assessment of the SONGS 1 SWC System. The study concludes that the system as designed provides a very reliable means of removing decay heat. The study did not identify any improvements to design or changes to procedures that would further improve system reliability.
Considering these results, no further actions are planned on this subject.
