OF NOVEMBER 1, 2010, MEETING WITH DUKE TO DISCUSS RESPONSES TO GENERIC LEDER (GL) 2004-02 FOR THE MCGUIRE NUCLEAR STATION (MCGUIRE) AND THE CATAWBA NUCLEAR STATION (CATAWBA) (TAC NOS. MC4673, MC4674, MC4692, AND MC4693)

On November 1, 2010, a Category 1 public meeting via conference call was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and representatives of Duke at NRC Headquarters, One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss Duke's responses to GL 2004-02. A list of attendees is enclosed.

The licensee discussed the status of upcoming tests to address issues raised by the requests for additional information (RAls) sent by the NRC staff's letters dated November 18, 2008 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML083080350), for McGuire and November 21, 2008 (ADAMS Accession No. ML083080373),

for Catawba. The next set of tests is scheduled to begin later in November 2010 and had been delayed to make additional modifications to the test equipment in order to ensure representative testing conditions. The licensee and the NRC also briefly discussed draft RAI responses sent by letter dated September 30, 2010 (ADAMS Accession No. ML102870100), with a particular focus on those responses that may be impacted by the upcoming testing. The NRC staff indicated that major issues, and the associated RAI responses, appear as if they will be addressed with the upcoming testing, which should be confirmatory.
