SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

OF THE AUGUST 17, 2007, MEETING WITH PSEG NUCLEAR, LLC, REGARDING AN APPLICATION FOR AN EXTENDED POWER UPRATE FOR THE HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION REGARDING STEAM DRYER ANALYSIS (TAC NO. MD3002)

On August 17, 2007, a Category 1 public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and representatives of PSEG Nuclear, LLC (PSEG, the licensee) at NRC Headquarters, One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the Hope Creek Generating Station Extended Power Uprate (EPU) information focusing on the PSEG response, dated August 3, 2007, to the Request For Additional Information (RAI) for the Hope Creek Generating Station EPU application. A list of attendees is provided as Enclosure 1. Enclosure 2 lists the meeting agenda from the public meeting notice.

PSEG presented the following: (1) the PSEG objectives for the meeting; (2) the PSEG view of the acceptance criteria related to the steam dryer analysis; (3) discussion of the bias and uncertainty; (4) the Acoustic Circuit Model (ACM) Revision 4 methodology; (5) loading definition from the ACM; (6) finite element model (FEM); (7) limit curves; (8) final reports; (9) matrix of RAI responses; and (10) summary. PSEG discussed CDI proprietary information. Enclosure 3 provides a non-proprietary version of the presentation slides and is located in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System, Accession Number ML072420402.

The staff questioned when PSEG would be finished developing a FEM for the safety relief valves, which will allow calculating vibration limits for these valves.

The staff questioned the power ascension plan and wish to review it.

No members of the public were in attendance. Public Meeting Feedback forms were not received.
