Additional draft (draft RAIs) the audit team requests (August 21, 2006)

Folks:

The audit team has a last minute surprise questions that are germane to the review, especially the second question that impacts the Auxiliary systems SSCs. I am sending this in advance so that Entergy can work on the lead on this item, as I will soon follow up with a formal request for additional information. Sorry.

As I already de-briefed Fred, we have 6-8 Qs from NRC staff on Neutron Embrittlement related to Chapter 4.0 TLAAs which Entergy should expect this week that I will share in a draft form ASAR.

Thanks.

Ram Subbaratnam PM Pilgrim LRA 415-1478 CCO: Erach D. Patel; James Davis

Additional AMR questions

1) The piping of the Reactor Core Isolation Cooling System is subject to flow accelerated corrosion. The PNPS LRA Table 3.2.1 ESF and Table 3.2.1 credit the plant-specific Periodic Surveillance and Preventive Maintenance Program for the management of wall thinning. The GALL report recommends using the Flow-Accelerated Corrosion Program, XI.M17, to manage wall thinning. The Periodic Surveillance and Preventive Maintenance Program provides for inspection for wall thinning every 5 years but no Monitoring and Trending activities to predict areas of high wall thinning rates or for trending of thinning as does XI.M17. Please provide justification for not providing for monitoring a trending of wall thinning for RCIC piping.
2) In table 3.2.1 Item 18 of the PNPS LRA, it is stated that none of the ESF system components are not within the scope of the BWR Stress Corrosion Cracking Program.

Please provide the details that justify this statement.
