These instructions are to be used in conjunction with Work Orders 02-004137-042 and 02-00413828 for pumps P36-1 and P36-2 respectively. While disassembled for maintenance, these pump casings were found to have a recessed machine surface in the gasket area that contacts the pump cover. This recessed surface prevented the cover from forming a proper case to cover fit-up and precluded proper gasket compression. To correct this condition it is necessary for the chamfer (bevel) on the outside diameter of the cover face that contacts the pump case to be enlarged.
The existing cover's chamfer is 0.015 inches at 45°.
The chamfer shall be increased (machined) to a maximum of 0.10 inches at 45°. This will ensure proper fit-up of this joint without compromising the design attributes of the RCP's.
A cross-sectional sketch of the RCP and the area of the chamfer is shown on page 2 of these instruc:tions.

There are no test requirements for this task. This is based on the original pump manufacturer's recommendations to restore the pump to the original design intent and is not considered to be design change.
ASME Section Xi Note: This minor machining activity is consider to meet condition 2.3.6 of procedure NG-E4-00311 (ASME Section Xl Repair, Replacement Program) and therefore does not require a Repair/Replacement Plan (RRP).
