Re: Working Meeting on RPV Top Head PFM Mike, I support the suggestion for a meeting and the suggested participants.

The dates are also OK for me, so long as the venue is at HQ.

Mike, At the June MRP / NRC I ACRS meetings on the RP`V CRDM penetration cracking issue, it was suggested that we have a working meeting among the technical experts for the NRC and MRP (and their consultants) to discuss the details of the MRP probabilistic fracture mechanics (PFM) model, and Inparticular, to iron out some differences regarding input assumptions for the analyses. Specific topics to be addressed include:

1. Stress Intensity factor computations
2. Crack growth rate distribution
3. Benchmarking of the analysis with respect to Oconee and other plant Inspection results
4. Any other concerns that the NRC or their consultants would like to address (please advise).

My reason for contacting you Is to suggest a meeting date of Sept. 5 or 6, either in Rockville or Chicago (many of the MRP representatives will be InChicago that week). I've discussed this meeting with Al Hiser and the proposed dates appear to be acceptable to him, but he suggested that I contact you to set up the meeting. I've copied this note to Individuals who I believe are the Interested parties.

Please let Christine King or me know whether the proposed meeting Is workable, and which date and venue are preferred. I would suggest the better part of a day be allocated, to assure that we have adequate time to cover the topics and iron out any differences.

Yours truly, Pete Riccardella Structural Integrity Associates 6595 S. Dayton St. (#3000)
