Subject:

Docket No. 50-482: Steam Generator Tube Plugging Report Gentlemen:

This letter provides information regarding the number of tubes plugged in each steam generator, as required by Wolf Creek Generating Station Technical Specification 5.6.10, "Steam Generator Tube Inspection Report." Technical Specification 5.6.10 requires, in part, that the number of tubes plugged in each steam generator be reported to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission within 15 days following the completion of each inservice inspection of the steam generator tubes.

The inservice inspection of Steam Generators "B"and "C" was completed on April 8, 2002. The inspection resulted in the mechanical plugging of 6 tubes in Steam Generator "B"and 3 tubes in Steam Generator "C". One tube in Steam Generator "B"was administratively plugged due to a single circumferential anomaly. This indication was tested with an ultrasonic technique and was confirmed as not degraded. All the other tubes plugged in Steam Generators "B" and "C" were due to indication of anti-vibration bar wear found during the inservice inspection. Steam Generators "A" and "D" were not inspected during the inservice inspection.

  • An additional 3 plugs are installed in Steam Generator "A" cold leg only, due to tube sheet drilling mistakes during manufacturing. No tubes are installed in those locations.
