h APR35]g7gStandfordResearchInstituteMeetinThepurposeofthismeetingwastodiscussthepreliminaryresultsofthe'MarkII1/13scalesingleventtests.TheseSRItestsconsistedofairchargingtests..Shakedowntestswereconductedtodeterminetheaffectofwatervaporinscaleairtestsonpoolswellphenomenon.ThepreliminaryresultsfortheSRItestsshoweddifferencesfromsimilartestsconductedatMIT.Thepurposeofthemeetingwastoidentifyreasonsforthedifferences.AdditionalSRItestingwas.discussedtoresolvedifferencesinresults.Hhi'leattheSRIfacilitywetouredthepooldynamicteststands.MenotedthatSRIisconductingEPRIfundedteststoinvestigatesteamchuggingphenomena.Testsarebeingconductedatthreedifferentscalesincludingsingleandmultiventtests.Thistestprogramisastudyofthefundamentalphenomenaofchugging.ThisprogramisnotapartoftheMarkIIownergroupsupportingprogram.MarkIIOwner'sGrouMeetinThetopicsdiscussedinthismeetingarelistedintheattachedmeetingagenda.Asummaryofdiscussionfollows:1.MonticelloSRV-MarkIIFluidStructureInteractionStudiesOr.H.TangofGeneralElectricdiscussedtheresultsofstudiesatGEtodeterminetheeffectofcontainmentwallflexibilityonthemeasuredSRVloadsintheMonticellotests.GEperformedcalculationssimilartothoseperformedbyLivermore.TheirplanestraincalculationsutilizedsimilarassumptionsofcontainmentrigidityandloadsourcetothoseperformedbyLivermore.UndertheseconditionstheyobservedthesametrendofreducingloadwithincreasingwallflexibilityasobservedintheLivermorestudies.However,theGEstudieswereextendedtoincludeaxisymmetriccalculations,3Dmodelingofatorussegmentandamultiplepulsesource.Resultsofthesestudiesshowthatwallflexibilityamplifiestheloads.ThisconclusioncontradictstheLivermore2Dstudy.Inadditiontheyconductedanalytical-experimentalcomparisonsusingtheirmodelandtheMonticellodata.TheuseofthemorerealisticassumptionsintheanalyticalmodelsubstantiatedtheMarkIIowner'sclaimthattheMonticellobenchmarkisvalid.TheMonticelloFSIstudyisnowconsideredcompletebytheMarkIIowner'sgroup.DocumentationwillbeprovidedtotheNRCbytheendofMay1978, InourMarchmeetingwiththeMarkIIowner'sgroupwediscussedthedesirabilityofformulatingaconservativechuggingimpulseloadtoresolve4TFSIquestions.Dr.HealzerofGeneralElectricdiscussedtheirplanforthistask.TheyshouldcompletethisstudybyearlyJune1978.AstatusreportwillbeprovidedatthenextMarkIIowner'smeeting.ThismeetingistentativelyscheduledformidMay1978,InadditionwerequestedthatDr.Healzerprovideus,withinthenextfew'eeks,anoutlineoftheobjectiveofthistask.3.SRVPoolTemeratureLimitsT.SuofNRCprovidedanNRCstatusreportontheissueofSRVpooltemperaturelimits.Hestatedthatbasedonourcurrentreviewofthesmallscaleteststhereisinadequatesupportingdatatojustifythecurrentpooltemperaturelimitsforrams-headreliefvalvedevices.AsaresultofourreviewwearepreparinganNRCpositionrequiringtheuseofquenchertypedevicesinMarkIIplantssincethesedeviceshavehigherpooltemperaturelimits.4.DFFRLeadPlantSRVLoadsT.SuofNRCprovidedastatusreportontheNRCreviewoftheMarkIIramsheadmodel.Hehighlightedseveraldeficienciesinthecurrentmodel.Wealsodiscussedtheuseoftheramsheadmodelforthoseleadplantswhichhavecommittedtoaswitchfromaramsheadtoaquencherdevice.H.BrinkmanrepresentingtheMarkIIowner'sgroupstatedthattheirplansaretousethecurrentramsheadmodeltopredictSRVloadsforplantswithquencherdevices.Testprogramsarebeingdevelopedtoshowthattheuseoftheseramsheadloadsforquencherdevicesisaconservativeapproach.CurrentplanscallforcompletionoftheconfirmatorytestspriortooperationofthefirstMarkIIplant.5,PSTFImactLoadsG.MaiseofBNLoutlinedtheresultsoftheNRCevaluationofMarkIIPoolDynamic-impactloads.ThisstudyconcludedthatthecurrentDFFRimpactloadspecificationisinadequateinthat
