Mr. J. B. Neilands 185 Hill Road Berkeley, California
Dear Mr. Neilands:
This refers to your letter of February 22, 1963 concerning the appli- 'l cation of Pacific Gas & Electric Company for a construction permit !
for a nuclear reactor at Bodega Bay, California.
Fursuant to your request, I am enclosing a copy of report TID-15329, ,
Ituclear Power and Utility Systems," and a list of the names and - 1 occupations of the manbars of the Advisory Committee on acactor' Safe-guards and the panel for the atomic safety and licensing boards.
You asked further whether thosa persons are connected with the AEC in any way and, if they are scientists, whether their research and other activities are supported directly or indirectly from funds from the . j Atomic Energy Comunission. . As indicated on the enclosed lists, three of the nou-technical members of .the licensing board panel'are Hearing Examiners employed by the Atomic Energy Commission. . The 'other non-technical member of the panel is enga5edin' the private practice.of i law in New York. None of the scientific members of the panel or the ACRS are employees of the AEC but some members of both' groups are employed at facilities operated by AEC contractors, or-universities or other institutions which have received AEC grants. To this extent, their research or' other activities may be support.ad endheette by U funds from the Atomic Energy Cotemission.
gg With respect to your last question, inforraetion concerning' the United States plutonium stockpile and plutonium production figures is classi-N" n. fied because of its significance to the national defense. I am sure you will understand, therefore, that we are unable to respond to your 4
Qn$ request.
