SYSTT.MS SATETY BRA::Cll: Containment Systens Branch TARCET COMPLETIO:: DATE: May 11, 1976 DESCRIPTION OF REQUEST: Eachground By letter dated April 26."1976 General Electric Company (GE) submitted a sunnary of the actions being taken by the Mark 1 Owners Group to complete the Short Term Progran analyses and associated documentation. That submittal included the following information:

1. A discussion of the quantified conservatisns that are included in the dynamic loads which have been identified for the generic analysis and which were presented to the NRC staff in a January 28, 1976 meeting with the Owners Group; 9

2. A descrip' tion of the progran for the plant unique analysis of the torus support system and external piping attached to the torun of each operating TATR plant with the !! ark I containment; and

3. Plant unique uplift load sensitivity data for each operating 1AlR.that does '

not have a tied-down torus.

Requent for Ancintance

\lc request that you review the infornation prescuted in the April 26, 1976 CE subnittal and provide a uritten evaluation of:

1. The conservatists associated with the definition of the urvard load f orc h -

function. This evaluation should 1..:'lude a quantification of the " correction fnetor" which can juctifiably be applied to the current value for.the tnost probable lead (i.e., as presented at the January 28, 1976 meetinn).

2. The acceptability of the P. ark 1 CVncro Group progrt.m f or perf oming the pir.nt unique analyses of the torus support system and external piping littached to the torus.

This evaluation should include co:rtents on the acceptability of the load applications

' to be used in these analyses.

Schedule The requeste.d target completion date is based upon providing titely cn=ments to the !! ark I Owners Group. It should be noted that the Owners Group has requested a meeting with the NRC staff on May 13. 1976 in order to discuss the infomation presented in the April 26, 1976 CE submittal.
