MEMORANDUM FOR: Jared S. Wemiel, Chief Human Factors Assessnent Branch Division of License Performance and Quality Evaluation FROM:
Seymour H. Weiss, Director Non-Power Reactor, Decomissioning and i
Environmental Project Directorate Division of Reactor Projects - III, IV, V and Special Projects SUDJECT:
USE OF RADIOS OR TAPE PLAYERS IN CONTROL ROOMS.
t 0F NON-F0WER REACTORS We would like to develop a more definitive position on the allowability of radios or tape players in the control room of non-power reactors. The Comission Policy Statement on the Conduct of Nuclear Power Plant Operations (54 FR 3424) and other correspondence (see enclosure) on this subject relating to power reactors leaves.the decision to the plant management and provides guidelines to be considered. While this approach may also be applicable to non-power reactors, we believe a more direct stand in this area would be appropriate, taking into consideration the nature of non-power reactor operations.
Therefore, please provide us with a position on the allowability of radios or tape players in the control room of non-power reactors and any restrictions that should apply if they are to be permitted. We will then transmit this to the non-power reactor comunity.
If you have any questions, please contact Ted Michaels on X21102.
