Dear Mr Briam:

Pursuant to NUREG-0654, Revision 1 Appendix 1, the following is a summary report concerning an Unusual Event at the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plaat site.

At 0740 PDT, on September 19, 1985, Diablo Canyon Power Plant receiveri notification that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) had issued a tsunami warning for the California coast up to Crescent City, California due to an earthquake (7.8 on Richter Scale) 150 miles northwest of Acapulco.

An Unusual Event was declared by the Shift Foreman at 0752 PDT and emergency notifications were completed by 0815 PDT.

The Unusual Event was terminated at 0930 hours0.0108 days <br />0.258 hours <br />0.00154 weeks <br />3.53865e-4 months <br />, September 19, 1985 after receiving a clarification from NRC Bethesda that a tsunami watch should be designated instead of a tsunami warning since there is no evidence of the existence of a tsunami. This event has in no way affected the health and safety of the public and no discharge of radioactive materials was made to the i environment.
