Dear Mr. Marlar:

NOTIFICATION OF NONCOMPLIANCE WITH EFFLUENT LIMITATIONS - NPDES PERMIT NO. TN0026450 - SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT Description of the discharge--Discharge No. 008 - Concrete batch plant settling pond effluent. A grab sample collected at 10:07 a.m. on February 23 i contained 53 mg/L of total suspended solids (TSS), exceeding the maximum permit limitation of 50 mg/L.

Cause and period of the noncompliance--The noncompliance was due to rainfall runoff volume that exceeded the treatment capacity of the pond.

A 1.2-inch rain occurred in the 24 hours2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
preceding the sampling. A sample collected on February 16 at 7:20 a.m. contained 14 mg/L TSS, and a sample collected on February 24 at 12:05 p.m. contained 41 mg/L TSS.

Therefore, the period of noncompliance was less than 195 hours0.00226 days
0.0542 hours
3.224206e-4 weeks
7.41975e-5 months
.

! Steps taken to reduce, eliminate, and prevent recurrence of the noncomplying discharge--Because of the nature of this noncompliance (extremely heavy precit .itation), no action is reconnended at this time.

Sincerely, Original Signed By M. Paul Schmierbach l
